Margaret River Farmers Market; Cape Leeuwin and Hamelin Bay, Cape to Cape Track

This morning we enjoyed the delightful flavours of the Margaret River Farmers Markets – large juicy fresh strawberries, bratwurst sausages, plus a ricciarello choc and atassio’s kiss from the Italian bakery.
We then drove south along the Bussell Highway to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.
We listened to an audio tour of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse Precinct.  The lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Western Australia and stands 56m above sea level, and apparently, it is 5 435km from the South Pole.  The coastline here is where the Southern and Indian Ocean’s meet and is very picturesque.  We then explored the Indian Ocean side coastline and the fossilized water wheel.

We then drove to Augusta for a picnic lunch by the beach – a very pretty spot today, but might be quite different on a wet windy day.

We then drove north up Caves Road to Hamelin Bay.  Hamelin Bay is also very picturesque, with beautiful clear water and very fine sand.  We walked a section of the Cape to Cape track from Hamelin Bay south around White Cliff Point to the Salmon Holes and back.  This walk was beautiful, although being in soft sand it was quite slow going (we walked 3.7km in 1 hour 20 minutes).
After our walk, we enjoyed a swim in Hamelin Bay, followed by sandcastle building, followed by another swim.  All around a great day! https://www.margaretriver.com/members/hamelin-bay-beach/
