Bibbulmun Track
This morning we drove to where River Road (Dwellingup) meets
the Bibbulmun Track and walked to the Swamp Oak Campsite.
The track is very well maintained and this is
the nicest walk we have done since Kalbarri. There was one area where we missed
a sign, but this was quickly realised because the path is marked approximately
every 200m, so we backtracked and re-found the path. The campsite was well set
up with picnic tables, fire pits, clean bush toilet, water tank and a shelter
that would comfortably sleep twelve and could sleep up to twenty plus if needed
in poor weather. There were also a large
number of level tent sites available. We
then turned around and walked back to the car.
All up, including our detour, this was 12.1km in three and a quarter
hours.
When we got back to the
campground the vast majority of people had left the campground. When we left the campground we had other vans
and tents within 2m of our caravan and the entire campground was full, whereas
on our return the closest was 150m away and there wre only half a dozen or so
vans/tents here. After lunch, Hayden and
I returned to the Trees Adventure sight and booked ourselves in for Tuesday
morning – the next available slot. We
then all headed to The Stringers for an afternoon swim.
I showed Hayden how to do reef knots,
clove-hitch and square lashing and he spent the rest of the afternoon
entertaining himself with rope and pieces of wood, making things. In the evening,
we enjoyed a peaceful campfire before bed.
