Lane Poole Reserve Trees Adventure
This morning we packed down the caravan and Hayden and I
went for a treetop adventure.
This is a
high ropes course set in the forest. As
Hayden is under 13, he had to be accompanied by an adult on each course so we
could only do what he was comfortable with.
We started on level green, this is designed for 8yo up and is set about
8m off the ground. Once we had
comfortably done this we took on level blue, again designed for 8yo up but this
time set 10m off the ground. Hayden felt
this was at his limit, so we did the second level blue course which was of
similar difficulty with different challenges.
We then decided to take on level red – the highest a child of Hayden’s
age is permitted to tackle. It is designed
for 10yo and up and is set 12m off the ground.
There were several obstacles on this that made Hayden feel uncomfortable
and two that he requested I do first so he could see how I tackled it. He finished the lot – and I believe both him
and I were really proud of him rising to the challenge and doing something he
didn’t think he could. We then went back
and did the second level green course so that we had done all the courses
Hayden could do – it seemed so much easier than the first green level course,
probably because we had done the other levels.
Our time was up, but as it was a quiet day the crew said we could do one
more course, so we repeated our favourite blue course. This time around Hayden had the opportunity
to encourage a nervous young adult along, which he did very well. After three hours on the ropes course we were
done – I am going to have very sore arms tomorrow.
We then drove south, stopping for a picnic
lunch and to top up the water in the van on the way, to Margaret River.
We have camped in Conto Campground (Quenda) in Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park for the next five nights, with the Turnbulls camped next door.
