Bluff Knoll, Mount Trio and Scenic Drive, Stirling Range
National Park
This morning the sky was overcast and the temperature cold –
perfect walking weather. We climbed
Bluff Knoll, the highest peak in southern Western Australia apparently. This was just under 7km return and took 3 ¼
hours. From about half way up we were in
cloud with limited visibility. The view
from the top was literally beyond words, indescribable… as all we could see was
dense cloud in all directions!
When we got back down the bottom we had a picnic
lunch, by the time we had finished eating the cloud had finally cleared and we
could see where we had climbed to. The
afternoon we climbed Mount Trio, a much shorter walk in distance (3.5km), but
incredibly steep. It took us over an
hour to get up and almost as long to get down.
Both today’s mountains required good concentration on the way down due
to the steepness. The views from the top
of Mount Trio were amazing, and well worth the climb!
Last up for the day, we took the scenic drive
through the centre of the national park and enjoyed some awesome views of the
Stirling Range, as well as being able to see the Porongurup Range that we
climbed yesterday.
I think we will all
sleep well tonight.
