Sights of Hyden – Wave Rock, Hippo’s Yawn and Lake Magic!
This morning we walked around and over Wave Rock at
Hyden. This is a very unusual rock
formation, and really looks like a giant rock wave breaking and about to roll
down on top of you! It is quite enormous at over 100m long.
We also went to
Hippo’s Yawn – another unusual rock formation with different coloured rock
inside the “mouth” of the Hippo, to the outside “skin”.
After packing down the van, we went for a
swim in a pool that fills from Lake Magic – this is hypersaline. It was fun –
we could not manage to get below the water surface properly due to the buoyancy
provided by the high salt level. It felt
like I was sitting on a pool noodle, no effort at all was required to stay
afloat – I could just sit or stand there and float! Where the water dried on
our skin, it formed visible salt crystals.
This afternoon we drove through Ravensthorpe to Fitzgerald River National
Park. We have camped in the Hamersley
Inlet campground. Drew and I enjoyed an
evening of nibbles together for our wedding anniversary.
