We set our alarm for 5:30am in the hope of being packed up before the forecast storm arrived. We were packed up for 7am but decided to wait a while as the bom radar showed the storm would hit at any moment. At 7:30am it hadn’t started raining so we decided to get going. And then the rain began! It was light for half an hour, then very heavy for fifteen minutes, and then eased over the next hour. The 4WD track we were climbing had a creek with rapids! When we reached the top there were a lot of very large puddles - think entire width of 4WD track and well over 10m long, but thankfully not deep. The rain started again about 10:15am and was moderately heavy for five minutes before settling. We climbed a very overgrown and wet track to the trig point, only to discover there is no longer a platform or view!

Just before midday the wind picked up and the sun came out. Hamelin Beach was wider and flatter than any of the other beaches we have walked on during the Cape to Cape Track. Interestingly the sand was harder above the high tide line than below it, possibly from the rain. The wind was coming from slightly north of west so for the first two thirds of the beach the wind was basically side on with a tiny bit of tail wind, and for the last third it was head on.

We arrived at Hamelin Bay Caravan Park at 2:30pm very wet, sandy and wind swept. We had hot showers and put on dry clothes. The afternoon was very cold, at 4:30pm the actual temperature was 13 degrees and feels like temperature 4 degrees.
