Cape to Cape Track - Day 2

 Thursday 13 August

Trails WA Cape to Cape

Friends of Cape to Cape Track

Last night was the first time I have used my new sleeping mat - it definitely works better for me than my previous one, however it does not give quite as much protection from the cold.

Walking south from Rabbits Hill was on and off the beach and the edge of the dunes. For us this was mid tide, it would be much more challenging at high tide and would not have been easy walking even at low tide. To cross Gunyulgup Brook we attempted to judge the waves and cross near the mouth. Result - wet boots and socks, plus a lesson learned. We stopped for morning tea at the southern end of Smiths Beach. From here it was steep ascents and descents over the headland. While we were stopped for lunch we watched whales repeatedly breaching and fin slapping. The next section of the track was slightly faster walking on sandy 4WD tracks.

Yallingup Beach

The Cuttlefish are much bigger than I am accustomed to

A very steep descent to the beach

and it continues down and down!

This section would have previously been extremely boggy

We arrived at Moses Rock campground around 5pm. It had been a very hot day, this evening was a bit cooler. While we were eating our dinner, after dark, we were investigated several times by a quenda. Once again, we had the campsite to ourselves for the night.
