We were awake at 6:30am and left camp just prior to 8am. Today’s walk started with a long uphill section through shaded woodland. It then went through open coastal heath.

When we reached the Margaret River diversion option, we decided to take the diversion as this is the official route. The diversion is very clearly marked at each end and along its course. It did involve a busy section of 4WD track (7 vehicles) which necessitated climbing up out of the 4WD track and into the bushes. The remainder of the winter diversion follows the Margaret River. It is quite lovely and different to the rest of the walk. The Margaret River is quite a large river and flowing quite quickly. We also passed vineyards on the diversion.

We arrived at Prevelly Caravan Park at midday (approximately 1.2km from the winter diversion track). We enjoyed showers, washed all our hiking clothes and put on clean clothes. Lunch was a pie and drinks from the Prevelly Caravan Park and General Store. We enjoyed filling the water bottles at a normal tap speed after the incredibly slow National Park taps.

In the afternoon we walked to the Margaret River mouth and watched the surfers and bodyboarders. We watched people wade across the river mouth - the water would have been up to the bottom of my rib cage. Very glad we chose the diversion, particularly since it was picturesque.  Margaret River Mouth
