Darling Range Section of Bibbulmun Track
This
morning we were up just before 5:30am and away a bit after 6:30am. It was a
beautiful clear cool morning, perfect for walking. It was very easy walking,
with the odd very slippery patch of clay. We arrived at Brookton Campsite in
just under two hours.
We
saw cockatoos either side of the Brookton Campsite, as well as shredded gum
twigs on the ground evidencing their feasting high in the trees. We crossed our
first Highway - Highway 40, Brookton Highway. This section was mainly forest
walking with jarrah and marri trees, grass trees and a small number of
wildflowers. The forest varied in maturity and canopy coverage. We climbed
Abyssinia Rock for a break and moderate views. We arrived at Canning Campsite
at approximately 12:15pm.

While
we had the campsite to ourselves, we washed and have hung all our clothes out
to air. This campsite even had pegs!! We had lunch and did our gym workout. We
also had a chat with a local day-walker who has done the whole hike - he gave
us lots of great information. Overall, we had a relaxing afternoon. Tonight
there was us and one other End to Ender in camp tonight, all sleeping in the
shelter.
