Gibb River Road, Mt Baldy Lookout, Cockburn Lookout; Home Valley Station (HV8)

After filling the van with water and the car with fuel, we headed out onto the Gibb River Road again – this time we are on the real Gibb River Road, no more bitumen, just dirt and rocks.

We crossed the Pentecost River Crossing today – this is normally a fairly scary crossing as it the river is quite wide and as it has saltwater crocodiles cannot be waded before driving through.

The Pentecost River Crossing was however completely dry – Hayden and I walked across without going within about 10m of the water.  We had only a short drive planned for today, stopping at Home Valley Station. https://www.hvstation.com.au/ After setting up camp and having lunch, we set out to explore on foot. https://www.hvstation.com.au/kimberley-tours/hikes-and-walking-trails https://trailswa.com.au/trails/mount-baldy-trail-home-valley-kimberley  Our first walk was to Mt Baldy Lookout – while the climb was extremely gradual the view from the top was fantastic.  As we had mobile phone reception at the summit, we took the opportunity to phone our fathers for Father’s Day.  We then went to Cockburn Lookout, which not surprisingly had a view of the Cockburn Range. https://trailswa.com.au/trails/cockburn-lookout-trail (All up about 5km in, 1 hour 45 minutes) We all enjoyed a swim to end the day and cool down. There are plenty of people in camp tonight as they have had a fishing competition on for the weekend.
