Bibbulmun Track Day 9 - Mt Wells Campsite to Chadoora Campsite

Darling Range Section of Bibbulmun Track

This morning we slept in until 5:45am and did a slow pack up. I climbed the fire tower (as far as is now allowed), but unfortunately there were minimal views.

We left camp about 7am. The dominant sound this morning was the mines. Descending from Mt Wells began with a short stretch of moderately steep descent, followed by several kilometres of slow descent.

Near the powerlines were glimpses of the Boddington Gold Mine. From here it was predominantly gentle walking through the forest. Some areas of the forest appear not to have been burnt for a long time as evidenced by the skirts on the grass trees. There was just detectable light rain about 8:15am. Otherwise the weather was cool and cloudy. This section had a large variety of bird noises. We saw cockatoos, kookaburras and Australian Ring Necks, plus many others. We could hear a lot more birds than we could see. There was a second patch of very light rain around 9:30am. We arrived at Chadoora Campsite just after 11am. We did not see any kangaroos today.

When we arrived, there were two rangers cleaning the shelter and campsite. The rangers also checked in with us whether we had seen anything on the track that we were concerned about, or any vehicles where they shouldn’t be. We decided to have a hot lunch today as we will arrive in Dwellingup one day earlier than planned and have a spare meal. Another End to Ender, joined us for lunch. In the afternoon we did a gym session and had a stretch. Chadoora Campsite was a very peaceful shelter with a pretty outlook for relaxing and listening to the birds.

Today we were overtaken by a 30yo lady, who is an End to Ender who started after us. In the shelter tonight there was only one other person, who is doing the Nyingarn Bidi three-day loop.
