The National
Museum of Australia was today’s activity.
We had booked the exhibition Dreamworks Animation: Journey from Sketch
to Screen; and started with this.
I
really enjoyed this. Many of the working
sketches and models are beautiful pieces of art in themselves. There was also a lot of information on the
process (journey) of how the ideas and images come together.
The museum
also had a Virtual Reality show, not Antarctica as they had a few weeks prior,
but a tour of the Okavango Delta in Africa.https://www.nma.gov.au/whats-on/expedition-360-vr This gave a 360 degree view up
close to lions, tigers, elephants, zebra, etcetera. It is the only time I plan to be looking up
at the belly of a lion or elephant as it walks over the top of me.
The museum
contained large exhibits on Aboriginal and White Settlement History, broken
into Old new Land, Landscapes and First Australians. We also went into the kids’ section, where we
created virtual robots and played a history-based computer game. Hayden realised I am really very unskilled at
computer games. We spent a bit over 6
hours at the museum.
Next stop was
Canberra Visitor Centre at Regatta Point on Lake Burley Griffin to get some
information about local attractions.
