K'gari Great Walk Day 7

K'gari Great Walk

There was a heavy downpour at 1am, otherwise there was minimal rain overnight. During the night I could hear an owl. We woke to our alarm at 4:30am, we were packed down and away at 5:45am.

It was lovely walking weather. We arrived at McKenzie’s Jetty at 8:40am. 

From here we chose to walk along the beach. We have not seen any dingoes, but on the beach we saw plenty of dingo tracks mainly travelling in groups of three. 

The sand varied in firmness greatly - it could go from firm to sponge that sank our boots to the start of the ankle in a step or two (even for me).

We arrived at Kingfisher Bay at 9:45am. We changed into clean clothes for the trip on the ferry. We were booked on the 11:30am ferry but were able to switch to the 10:15am ferry (which was great, very thankful for their flexibility).

We arrived at River Heads at 11am and were back at our car just after 11:15am. We drove to Torquay, Hervey Bay to have showers.

Goodbye K'gari

Lunch was delicious burgers from Ned’s by the Bay. We went to the supermarket to get chocolates for the people who looked after our van. We had the van hooked up and left Hervey Bay around 1:30pm. The Bruce Highway was a good run south and we arrived home just before 4pm. Not our most enjoyable hike but still an adventure.
