K'gari Great Walk - Day 2

K'gari Great Walk

We slept until 7am and went for a morning swim in Lake McKenzie. There were only two other people in the lake, well away from us.

After breakfast we packed up and were on our way by 9:45am.

We walked to Basin Lake, which involved a decent uphill stretch. The forest was much prettier and less exposed than yesterday’s walk. There were two other people at Basin Lake - peaceful.

Wanggoolba Creek

From here we walked to Central Station. Wanggoolba Creek was so clear that it looked like something must be floating on the surface when in fact it was the sandy bottom of the creek. We saw two hikers between Basin Lake and Central Station. We also saw two other hikers at Central Station.

The Walker’s Camp is several hundred metres after Central Station towards Pile Valley. We arrived in camp just after 12:30pm.

We had lunch and set up camp. There is the option of hot showers at the nearby car-based campground - Satinay Campground. We spent the afternoon exploring Central Station and Wanggoolba Creek.

I had a short read before dinner and then an early night for me. I felt exhausted at bedtime and must have been unwell as I spent a large part of the night vomiting.
