K'gari Great Walk - Day 1

 Monday 22 June

K'gari Great Walk

We were up at 6 am, packed down and away at 7:20am. We took the van to a friends place and parked it. We then drove to River Heads and parked our 4WD in the paid secure parking. The bus to the ferry arrived at 9am, the ferry departed about 5 past. Ferry to K'gari from River Heads  We were unloaded on the island and started walking about 10am. From the ferry terminal, which is in Kingfisher Bay Resort, it is a little bit difficult to find where the Great Walk begins.

We explored the Fraser Commando School ruins from WW2. Military Trail - Fraser Commando School

McKenzie's Jetty ruins were our next stop, where we had a short break.

The ocean was very calm and pretty. The weather was very hot until about 2pm. 

I think she's bogged Mate!

The last hour to camp at Lake McKenzie had some solid uphills.

We arrived in camp around 3pm. While we saw no other hikers on our walk, there was one other couple in camp who were coming to the end of their walk. After setting up our tent we went for a swim in beautiful Lake McKenzie - freezing but crystal clear water and white silicone sand.
