Trails WA Cape to Cape Track Friends of Cape to Cape Track
Overnight the wind dropped a bit. On waking the temperature was 13 degrees, feels like temperature 10 degrees, which was much more pleasant. We had a sleep-in this morning until 6:45am. We had a leisurely start to the day and left camp just before 8:30am.
Our first stop was the lookout to Hamelin Island and its WW2 radar relics, plus a rainbow. From here we walked along softish sand south with light sprinkling rain and a full rainbow over the ocean. There were patches on the beach today where the flies were extreme, mainly where there were large quantities of seaweed. We then climbed steeply off the beach and through undulating coastal scrub to the Foul Bay Lighthouse.

From the lighthouse we descended to a rock ledge on the coastline. This was a very slow section for us. This was partly because it was quite technical. However, it was more because it was fascinating to watch, and listen, to the ocean crashing against the rock platform and coming up through the blow holes.

After
setting up camp we went back to the beach to watch the waves. There was an
unusual rip running almost parallel to the beach. There were also spots where
the waves were heading away from the beach due to the interaction of the waves,
the currents and the wind. We also spent some time relaxing and reading. There
was a solid rain shower at dinner time and then rain on and off throughout the
evening.
