It rained all night, softly, but enough that the sand around
our tent was completely wet this morning. Given the weather conditions I am
glad we decided to climb Mt Sonder during the day yesterday rather than do
sunset or sunrise. The cloud was too dense to provide colour or watch the rays
of light creep across the landscape. We
lazed in bed reading until 7:30am. We spent a very relaxing day reading books,
eating and talking to fellow End to Enders – most had finished, and some who
were about to start their adventure. We walked up the road to the drive-in
campgrounds, On the way we saw a massive congregation of bees on a gum tree. We
visited the ladies (and support crew) who had travelled much of the hike in
parallel with us, raising money for Cancer Council. It was lovely to have chat
with people who had shared the journey with you, supported you and understand
the achievement that completing this trail is. I always learn so much from my
fellow hikers – we all arrive with different knowledge, goals and experiences;
we all leave changed in some way from our adventures.
