During the night, Drew woke unsure of where he had put the
key to the food drop. He found it quite quickly but had managed to give himself
a fright. Overnight I could hear the wind high in the trees, but our campsite
was very sheltered and very little wind reached us.
We woke at 6:45am and read in our warm and cosy sleeping bags until 7:30am. There was a lot of birdsong from the trees surrounding our campsite. Around 9am we headed off to walk the Ormiston Pound Walk. It was as pretty as I remember. We climbed up to the lookout and sat and enjoyed the stunning views.
We then made our way across the pound. The pound has many many pairs of spinifex pigeons doing their pigeon strut.
We crossed several picturesque sandy creek beds, with a surprising number of waterholes.

It was then a mix of bouldering, rock hopping and sand walking down the gorge.
The water crossing near the end of the walk was shallow, not even up to my knees. Even though it was shallow the water was still very cold.
Rather than going along the base of the gorge we chose to return to camp via the Ghost Gum Walk. The view from the lookout down into the waterhole at the base of Ormiston Gorge was spectacular – the water appears very deep (apparently it is about 14m deep, so no wonder it looked deep).
On returning to camp, we had showers, lunch and charged devices at the Kiosk again. I spent the remainder of the day exploring the waterhole and enjoying the reflections. I had an early night to catch up on sleep.
