 Tuesday 6 July 2021 – 311 585

The challenge for today was the Zamia Walk to Mt Archer summit.

We took approximately four hours to ascend and three and a quarter to descend the 12.5km each way.  This is a lovely walk that goes through quite a variety of microclimates – open woodland, rocky creek lines, dry rainforest and spectacular views. This is quite similar terrain to the Gheerulla loop of the Blackall 100 (trail run) and would be great training for it. The views from the top were primarily over the city, but the views on the way up were over the surrounding ranges. Compared to our expectations parts of the route were much hotter when we were in open sun, and the areas of rainforest were much denser than we expected for the Rockhampton area.
